BMW Has a New Logo, and Soon Every Model Will Wear It
BMW New Logo

How to Spot the New BMW Logo on Your Model

BMW has quietly introduced an updated version of its iconic logo, and starting next month, the new design will appear on every BMW model. The refreshed roundel first debuted on the BMW iX3, but the automaker has now confirmed a full lineup rollout. While the changes are subtle, they mark another step in BMW’s long history of careful brand evolution.

BMW Quietly Updates Its Iconic Roundel

At first glance, BMW’s new logo looks almost identical to the previous version. The familiar blue and white quarters remain, and the overall circular shape is unchanged. However, a closer look reveals several refinements aimed at giving the badge a more modern and precise appearance.

The most noticeable change is the removal of the inner chrome circle. This gives the logo a flatter look, aligning with current automotive and digital design trends. The colors also appear slightly updated, with cleaner tones and a more refined finish.

What Exactly Has Changed in the New BMW Logo?

BMW focused on refinement rather than reinvention. According to BMW design chief Oliver Heilmer, the goal was to preserve the brand’s heritage while adding clarity and precision.

The chrome elements have been reduced, and the white areas now sit closer to the outer ring. While the logo appears flat visually, it still has texture when touched, with subtle ridges that maintain a premium feel. The lettering has also been refined, featuring a shiny pattern inspired by luxury watch design.

BMW M Performance Logo Also Getting an Update

Alongside the standard roundel, BMW is updating its M performance logo as well. The revised M badge is expected to begin appearing on vehicles from February. BMW has not shared full details yet, but if the standard logo is any indication, the M logo changes will likely be understated rather than dramatic.

A Long History of Subtle Logo Evolution

BMW has adjusted its logo many times over the past century, often opting for small, careful changes instead of bold redesigns. The company introduced another updated logo in 2020, while a special black and white version was unveiled in 2017 for select high-end models.

This latest update continues that tradition. While BMW classifies it as a new logo, it is far from a radical shift. Many drivers may not even notice the difference unless they look closely.

Industry Reaction and Public Response

Initial reactions from automotive fans and designers have been mixed but calm. Some appreciate the cleaner, more modern look, while others prefer the older chrome-heavy design. Overall, the consensus is that BMW has stayed true to its identity while making small adjustments to keep the brand current.

When Will the New Logo Appear on All BMW Models?

BMW will begin installing the updated logo across all models starting next month. The rollout will include electric vehicles, M performance cars, and traditional combustion engine models. Over time, every new BMW leaving the factory will carry the refreshed badge.

Final Take

BMW’s new logo proves that the brand believes in evolution, not revolution. The changes are minimal, but they reflect a broader shift toward modern, digital-friendly design. Whether most people notice or not, the updated roundel will soon become a familiar sight on every BMW road car.
